APRÈS SKI & NIGHTLIFE
As the sun sets, the focus for fun turns away from the pistes and towards the attractions of the resort and the social side of the snowsports experience.
Les Deux Alpes attracts a young and vibrant clientele, and has plenty of diversions and facilities to appeal to and cater for them.
Those with an addiction to activity can continue to ski on some evenings and/or choose from the extensive range of alternative activities or sports & leisure facilities available.
The resort has a well-deserved reputation for lively nightlife:
there is a games arcade, on the avenue de la Muzelle; two 10-pin bowling centres; plus a wide range of restaurants, bars, and clubs.
Just remember though, if you're too wasted to hit the hill the following day, that's over 15 per cent of a 6-day lift pass & riding time wasted too!
Throughout the season, the resort arranges a calendar of events for national holidays and local festivals. Expect open-air live music performances and fireworks.
An enduring après-ski favourite that is well catered for in Les Deux Alpes:
Bowling Le Strike
A large venue with a good choice of arcade video-games and a decent bar/café too. A popular meeting point for younger locals, and normally buzzing most evenings. Earlier in the day, two of the lanes are set aside especially for children.
Advance booking for bowling lanes is recommended.

The trend for ‘wellness’ holidays in Alpine resorts continues to grow, and facilities are improving all the time. Many of the larger 3- & 4-star quality hotels have their own in-house hydrotherapy suites, usually attached to fitness rooms; additionally, Les Deux Alpes also has a number of spa venues to pamper & pummel visitors:
Aquaflorès Spa Indoor & outdoor pools, sauna, hamman, Jacuzzi, cardio-sculpt fitness suite, hydro-massage, sports & relaxing massages, body moisturising & toning treatments, facials, aromatherapy.

Les Deux Alpes is a large conurbation with a year-round population and more than 100 retail establishments, although like many ski resorts most of these only sell mountain-sports equipment/apparel & accessories.
All of the main streets are lined with shops, but the upper avenue de la Muzelle in the Alpe de Venosc quarter has the largest range and most pleasant surroundings.
As well as the usual plethora of sports outlets, there are also a fair number of fashion boutiques, regional products delicatessens, patisseries & bakeries, souvenir shops, plus several large supermarkets; also a couple of pharmacies, perfumeries, specialist eyewear boutiques, newsagents, bookshops, and photographic studios.
Most shops stay open until 20:30hrs.
The commune of Venosc
in the Vénéon Valley, accessible from Les Deux Alpes via the Venosc gondola (17), is also well worth a visit: the quaint cobbled lanes through its upper hamlets form a charming ‘Artisan's Village’, where local craftsfolk have developed a warren of arts & crafts boutiques.
There are at least half-a-dozen cash machines dotted along the arterial avenue de la Muzelle in Les Deux Alpes.
English-language instructions are quick to find and the user-interface is usually as straightforward and familiar as your own bank's machines back home.
