Starting Off
Because Les Deux Alpes stretches out in a linear fashion along the flat floor of a long col, its main base-area slopes also sprawl along the lowest flanks of the mountains that rise up on both sides of the resort. This means that no matter where you are staying in the main resort, you are never more than a short stroll from the pistes.
The central base-area slopes, spread out behind the main tourist information & lift-pass offices at place des 2 Alpes, serve as the principal base focus at the resort: as a departure point for the main lifts to the core ski area; for ski school classes and for children discovering the joys of snowsports on the gentlest lower pistes &
Snow Gardens; for weekend dabblers availing of the free-of-charge button tows; and for non-skiers & locals simply relaxing alongside snowsports enthusiasts, sipping an aperitif, sunbathing and/or seeing-&-being-seen at the piste-side bars & restaurants, or stating or driving bumper cars on the
ice rink or swimming in the heated outdoor
municipal swimming pool.
First Day
Equipment rental is best organised either first thing after arriving in resort or early on your first morning before heading to the slopes. If you are travelling with a tour operator, your rep can handle logistics and take you for equipment fitting en masse with other newly arrived guests.
If you are booked into
ski school, you will be advised where to meet or accompanied to whichever rendevous area is nearest to your accommodation;
ski school generally begins around 10:00hrs.
