Touring on snowmobiles, Ordino Valley

Other Activities at Arcalís
Arcalís exists almost purely as a ski station, with no resort village infrastructure. There are very few alternatives to traditional snowsports, on or off the pistes, other than the options suggested below.

Winter Motorsport
If you had to pick just one alternative snowsport, surely it has to be snowmobiling. This exhilarating motorsport is available on-site at Arcalís base station; departing from a control cabin in the lower car park.
The prepared circuit takes about 15 minutes to complete, looping down along the banks of a mountain stream, with a steep descent to kick start the adrenaline buzz, before blasting up to Arcalís base station again via the flanks of Pic de Font Blanca.

Along the route, you pass a small stone-built refuge which is frequently used by ski-tourers overnighting prior to making the 3-hour ascent of Pic de Font Blanca, which, at 2904 m (9528 ft), is the second highest peak in Andorra.

Group tours and advanced snowmobile skills tuition are also available, as are evening excursions into the ski area after the pistes have closed.
A small fenced-off circuit, equipped with special kiddie-sized snowmobile machines, is also available for children.

Winter Hiking
Snowshoe hire is available from the sports shop at Arcalís base station.
Guided walks, accompanied by an instructor/guide, are also offered.
If your fitness level is up to the challenge, you can hike up into the high La Coma sector, where you can visit the Túnel del Rat ice cave; please see our piste critique on El Túnel Piste for a photograph and description of this unique feature.
Stay off to the sides of the pistes when venturing on-foot into the ski area.

More Adventure Activities
Please also consult the Ski-Ride Travel Guide to Pal-Arinsal for details of further adventure activities available at the other Vallnord stations.
Bookings can be made at the lift-pass/information offices.
NB: you do not need to have a lift pass in order to participate in the majority of the alternative activities on offer at Vallnord.
