PISTE ACCIDENTS & EMERGENCIES

Medical Centres
Well-equipped trauma and X-ray suites are located at both Pal and Arinsal base lodges.
They are accessible from the pistes, so rescue sleds can be brought right up to the doors.

They are also close to the access roads and helicopter pads, in case emergency transport to hospital is required.

In cases of serious injury or illness, the medical centre staff will contact your insurance company, although you will have to pay on-site for any initial costs
(if excluded by any excess clauses on your policy).
Make sure that your wintersports travel insurance covers heli-rescue, piste rescue and ambulance transport, as well as medical and hospital expenses.
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
Andorra is not a member of the EU, and is not covered by the EHIC agreement.
The Principality does not have a free universal healthcare system; the ski-station medical centres are well equipped, and the hospital in the capital is very modern, but none of the facilities is fully state funded.
Further Advice
Always carry some form of identification and your travel insurance details with you.
It is also advisable to carry at least a basic first-aid kit with you for dealing with minor cuts and bruises.

Accident rescue services are not automatically included with standard lift pass or instruction packages:  it is your responsibility to make sure that you are adequately covered by your travel insurance policy, or to purchase a supplemental piste-rescue upgrade from the lift pass office in resort.
