El Forn 2000 services hub, Canillo | © NEVASAEL FORN 2000

Sector:  Canillo
All ski-area services & facilities are within a few metres stroll of the upper terminal of the Canillo gondola, and the pistes begin immediately to your right as you step off the arrival platform.

There is a beginners' piste and a tubing slope next to the gondola station, both sharing a short easy-to-use conveyor-belt surface lift and tucked safely away from the main pistes; at the bottom of this area are three waymarked snowshoe circuits.

A Grandvalira information kiosk plus some equipment lockers and public WCs are first on the looker's left nearest the gondola terminal; the ski school office and the crèche are just beyond these on this same level, with the children's Snow Garden safely fenced off at the far end of the crèche building.

The main catering facilities are about 40 m (44 yd) ahead-right on this same level, with a huge terrace overlooking the pistes and the peaks beyond.

The fixed 4-seater Junior chairlift arrives close the gondola terminal, rising up from the bottom of the slopes (2 minutes journey time) to make the connection with the gondola for the return to Canillo village; there are no home-run pistes.

There are two green-graded main pistes, running parallel down either side of the Junior chairlift:  the piste nearest to the restaurants building is the Forn I, the upper section of which is also served by an easy-to-use conveyor-belt surface lift; the parallel Forn II piste, to the skier's right, shares the same slope and merges with the Forn I to flow down to the chairlift's base terminal. Both pistes are mellow blue in character, and serve as the sole access route from the gondola & services hub level down to the fast 4-seater Portella chairlift for the onward link into the neighbouring El Tarter sector; this second chairlift also serves the Canillo sector's other two pistes, the Rossinyol and the Gaig.

There is a tranquil ambiance at El Forn, enhanced by the area's seclusion from the bigger & busier principal ski sectors, which makes it popular with families with small children and with nervous first-timers.
