View from Riba Escorxada towards El Tarter SnowparkRIBA ESCORXADA 2100

Sector:  El Tarter
This central plain is the main focal point for services, facilities, and onward links in El Tarter's snowbowl.
All visitors pass through this area at some stage, on their way into and out of this sector.

The peak to the looker's right above the snowbowl is the Pic d'Encampadana; the central Tossal de la Llosada mountain is the area's highest point; and the summit of Tosa dels Espiolets to the looker's left marks the watershed with the neighbouring Soldeu sector. These three peaks shelter the snowbowl and provide a plethora of terrain for all abilities. All slopes funnel down on to the central plain, a vibrant & buzzing area at 2100 m (6890 ft) altitude.

The upper station of the Tarter gondola is sited on high ground overlooking the central plain below, next to the large Pi de Migdia restaurants building: this houses a café-bar, self-service canteen, roof-top à la carte restaurant, and public WCs. The Tarter chairlift (rising from El Tarter base station) arrives a little higher above this level, but still within easy reach of the piste-side terrace at the Pi de Migdia.

From this restaurants complex and the gondola, it is then only 150 m (164 yd) easy on-piste glide down to the other services and onward link-lifts on the lower plain: Grandvalira information kiosks, lockers, and a photography service are housed in the nearest building on the skier's right at this lower level; the ski school's check-in desks & meeting points are here too, at the top of the wide Riba beginners' zone.

Immediately next to this is the entrance to the children's Snow Garden, monitored by the ski school office housed in the adjacent chalet, along with the crèche.

The large ‘Riba Escorxada’ building next to these houses more cafés & restaurants, with terraces facing the sun and offering great views up the entire snowbowl.

Two fast 6-seater chairlifts (the Llosada to the looker's right and the Tosa Espiolets to the looker's left) depart from this lower plain, each just a short stroll away from the services buildings. Both lifts provide access to the upper reaches of the snowbowl, and both make links into the Soldeu sector. The Tosa Espiolets chairlift also serves the impressive El Tarter Snowpark, which is located on the nearby slopes immediately above the Riba Escorxada plain; the park is also served by a draglift (the Font Roges button tow) which rises parallel to this chairlift.

For home runs to El Tarter, either cruise down on the long Esquirol piste which passes through the Riba Escorxada plain, or head for the testing Aliga run off the Tosa dels Espiolets; the lower half of the Aliga is also reachable by using the slow 4-seater Pi de Migdia chairlift to gain height out of Riba Escorxada.
