Sector: Canillo
This was the first of Grandvalira's better quality ‘Restaurants d'Encant’, and it is still widely regarded as one of the best on the mountain.
Situated in the peaceful
El Forn area of the Canillo sector, it is tucked away at the far end of the main services building, past the busier
El Forn self-service canteen, and has its own private section of the terrace overlooking the
Forn slopes and the Valira Valley below.
The interior is quite plain, but is roomy, bright, and decorated in chalet style with a cosy lounge area with an open fireplace and comfy sofas; there is also a bijou little cocktail bar by the entrance. Once settled, you may find it difficult to drag yourself back out to the cold.
The à la carte and table d'hôte menus are short but select, focused on modern interpretations of classic Pyrenean dishes, with a distinct French influence;
there is a reasonable choice of puddings, and a fair selection of mostly French and Iberian wines.
The restaurant is also open for dinner on Friday & Saturday evenings throughout the season, and every night during the Christmas & New Year holidays; diners are given set ascent/descent times for the
Canillo gondola, and the path to the restaurant from the upper terminal of the gondola is lined with flaming torches to light the way.
Reservations are required for dinner, and are recommended for lunch during high season and at weekends.
