Sector: Canillo
A good mid-length cruise, which runs to the base of the two chairlifts at
El Forn, with stunning scenery from the high ridge on its uppermost section: the valley to the skier's left is the Cortals d'Encamp, where the Funicamp cable car runs up from Encamp town; over to the skier's right is the Valira Valley, and views towards the Coll d'Ordino and [on a clear day] as far as
Vallnord's Pal-Arinsal ski area in the far distance to the west.
Much of the upper section of the
Rossinyol is very gentle, and sometimes needs a bit of a skate. Around 100 m (109 yd) from the top, the
Gaig run begins by dropping off steeply to the skier's right; keep straight on to stay on the
Rossinyol, which then begins to develop a more rideable gradient.
The route swings to the skier's right and flows off the ridge as a motorway-wide cruise, with a couple of variations around copses of trees and some short red-equivalent sections; check your speed as you approach the chairlifts terminals at the finish. The
Portella chairlift is the nearest, the Junior chairlift next to that rises to El Forn's services hub level and the upper terminal of the
Canillo gondola.
